I.e., the sellout is a person who for whatever reason makes it their business to appease/please whites whatever the costs to the group or even to themselves. I think there are plenty of people who make sell-out choices in their personal lives that have very little meaningful effect on other Black people (or other women or whatever the group is that you belong to). You can certainly sell your own self out.
