First, Puerto Ricans never got what they wanted in New York during the 1960's. I suggest you study what happened to the Young Lords in Spanish Harlem or a number of the Latino driven housing movements that were born in the Lower East Side and the Bronx. All of the tough anti-eviction housing laws that benefit NYC tenants were due to Latino squatters who lived in neglected buildings. And if it wasn't for their resistance, landlords would not be required to provide heat and essential services...

Let me also say this, the property was probably looking abandoned. The people in Michigan have gotten so much stimulus money and breaks when it comes to their homes. Shit is ridiculous. I know a guy (White guy) I went to high school with who lives out there in Michigan and he practically got several thousands of dollars in aide to help him keep his home from the Federal gov't. But black folk were being kicked out left an right.
