This is the very first book I remember buying on my own. Star Surgeon, by Alan Nourse http://www.amazon.com/Star-Sur...Nourse/dp/1598180657 It probably cost me 35 cents, most of my weekly allowance. LOL It has now been free on the Internet for SIX YEARS. http://www.gutenberg.org/files.../18492-h/18492-h.htm The computer and Internet situation is way different from what it was just ten years ago. I recently found that Hugo Gernsback was advocating science fiction as a method to learn science...

Yeah, are they going to PREPARE these kids to be able to read that well by the first grade? That's one of the biggest problems with our schools right now, in their desperation to plug-n-chug to stay in compliance with NCLB, they leave no room for students to actually study, therefore, learn what they are being taught. Now, they have teachers teaching second graders like they're in a lecture class, then they test them. What ever happened to teach, practice, study, then test? But, it also...

It looks like the Google Nexus 7 is going to be a low enough cost tablet from a BIG NAME brand to become popular enough. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets...tastic-200-tablet/3/ It has the processing power of the iPad 2 and 3 and the screen resolution is better than the 2 and in spitting distance of the 3. And it costs HALF AS MUCH!!! So when are Black Americans going to standardise on some hardware? Imagine 200,000 Black families all buying Google Nexus tablets. Maybe Black Churches should...

What we're learning from online education http://www.ted.com/talks/daphn...sm=on.ted.com_Koller I think she is not confronting the consequences of this universal education. It will force more fundamental changes. What will it do to supply and demand regarding jobs. If qualified people are a dime a dozen then WHAT? I am not using that as an excuse to not do it. I think our entire concept of jobs, careers and economic class structure needs to change. Xum

So quickly, are you implying that society would be forced to be more equal? I don't think that it will be equitable even if everyone had access to equal education. There's always going to be those who are more driven, more intelligent than others as well as those who are not as intelligent. However I do think that people have the ability to excel in what they are highly proficient in. Its those talents that will eventually reshape the society.

And how many that are more intelligent can't get ahead because the system does not necessarily reward intelligence. I have met plenty of salesmen who make a great buck who are really good liars. Look at the computer industry now. Do you really believe all of these operating system upgrades from Microsoft make sense? What happens when you do not have a degree or credit hours in a subject and yet you know enough to understand when someone with a degree is telling you bullsh#? You may not be...
