Sudan: A Year of International Accomplishments and Failures Posted by Jenn Christian on Dec 23, 2011 2011 was a remarkable year in Sudan. Not only did the world look on as a new nation, the Republic of South Sudan, was born, but it also bore witness to, and largely failed to address, reoccurring human rights violations committed by Sudanese government and government-backed forces in Abyei, Blue Nile, Darfur, and South Kordofan. In Sudan, 2011 began with what many had written off as...

We can't have shrines. Had Baldwin been white, they'd have the house encased in gold somewhere. All over the world, there's a white something or another on a horse, in some statue form or another. Why don't the two rich black people of the world buy the house and make a museum or something? Whites don't need another condo. They need to go somewhere and live in forests like they were intended. I'm sure you know the answer to that. Black people trying to 'SOUND THE ALARM' will have to put all this information in a "Rap" video with a whole lot of cussing that romaticizes guns and violence against each other , and make a whole lot of sexually vulgar references, while doing some crazy dance moves half naked, before most Black people will listen to anything constructive and not self-defeating.

We can barely correct the distortions of U.S. history still taught in our classrooms, and it is asking a lot for us to undertake an understanding of a continent as vast as Africa, with a complex and multi-faceted history and present day relationship to global capital and its multiplicity of internal conflicts, but perhaps, with the world's eyes now centered on the passing of Madiba, we can make a start.
