Vox, An interesting point that Adam and Eve were not exactly real. It took me a long time to come to that conclusion myself, that the early chapters of Genesis are allegorical description--and intended to be--and not history. I think that I can see now how that would be, and the more that I look at the subject, the more convinced I am that it is a beautiful allegory, a description of our natures (Cain building a city in the Land of Wandering is a poetic touch worthy of the best poets in...

What Melisi? Don't have Genesis in Coptic or original Hebrew? I figured you would have done your own lingusitical analysis on the creation account of Genesis to see if the translations were 'accurate'. Many people 'believe' creation was 7 'days' or seven thousands years long, but that's because they are reading the translation of a translation of a translation of a line of translations. I would have thought you, of all people, would understand *that*. My mistake. Isaiah 1;2-3 "Hear, O...

soul_doctor, Actually, what you ask about has nothing to do with a second coming. It does have everything to do with free will. What you ask about is actually addressed in Genesis 1-3, and then illustrated in the rest of the Bible. Why did Adam and Eve--why do we--sin? Because the fruit "was good for food, pleasing to the eye, and desirable for making wise." It was forbidden, but both man and woman decided that they knew better than God, so they ate instead of thought. You see, if they had...

This is why it is so hard to 'reason' with christians. I specifically asked those specific questions concerning a specific prophecy, i.e. the Messiah of Israel, whom christians *claim* to be Jesus. The Church *claims* to be 'gods' construct. But the truth is, the church was envisioned, organized, and built by men. Men who have further provided christians such as yourself with a 'guide' by which they are to 'worship' in *their* 'authorized' Church. Also, in keeping with christian concepts,...

My answer to you stated that the questions had nothing to do with the question of Jesus being the Messiah. They had everything to do with human free will. You didn't ask about "specific prophecies." No, Dr. Felder was not there. It was more a critique of James Cone. Dr. Cone got to the session late, so missed my paper as it was the first. Christianity is not X "against" Y. It is X "separate from" Y, but that's no more funny than any other reality. That someone would think it to be "against" instead of "separate from" shows a basic misunderstanding of it. When God created the earth, he created it separate from himself, but it was "tov," which means both "good" and "beautiful." It was not something to be "against." Nor is it now. The reason that we seem to be "against" nature is because of sin, which pits us against all that...

Lets see, how about the creation stories in Genesis. As I and others have alluded to, there are at least two creation stories in Genesis. The first story is the 7 day creation story where God speaks order to the primordial chaos and over the course of 6 days we have the creation of the heavens, earth, animals, and then finally human beings on the 6th day. Male and female are created together and given dominion over this creation, God says that its all good, and then rests. The second story...

Be careful with the "Do not kill" command. It really is "do not murder." It is not the normally-used Hebrew word for "kill." That word is "harag." It appears for example in Genesis 4:15 where Cain complains that "anyone who finds me will kill me." The word in the Ten Commandments is a form of "resach," which almost always means to kill with premeditation with a private (and thus usually illegal) motive. It is allied to the word "shatter," which is also used to mean "slaughter." Capital...
