Black cats & Broken mirrors: The origins of 13 enduring superstitions

Cholly ·
Boo! Why oh why are black cats, broken mirrors, the number 13 and umbrellas opened indoors considered such big, bad deals in some circles? And why do many people feel better when armed with a lucky rabbit's foot, or a lucky shirt, or a lucky tie, or a...

You know ... in a way, reading this was rather .... liberating ! Knowing most of these are religion-based takes the 'scariness' out of 'em! If it's a matter of 'do/don't do this or that or the devil's gonna get you' ... well, hell, he's been after me for a long time already and hasn't been able to catch me yet! Now ... if i were to actually SEE a witch turn into a black cat ..... ... well, that would be a whole 'nother thing altogether!

Good read. I like to know the history of things, how it all started. It's interesting to see, though, how some of the meanings changed as time passed.

107-year-old vet: Key to living is ‘staying out of trouble’ by Carrie Healey | November 8, 2013 at 3:05 PM Comments 1 Richard Overton was honored with a standing ovation and a box of cigars Thursday for being America’s oldest veteran. The Texas native served in World War II and said the key to living longer is “staying out of trouble.” The 107-year-old told Fox News earlier this year that he doesn’t take any medicine and smokes up to 12 cigars a day. “I also stay busy around the yards, I...

The grammys is like the academy awards, American music awards...etc. All controlled by white businessmen...,,much like how it was during the 40s, 50s, and early 60s. The difference: the artist have a little more power over contacts and their face can appear on album, cds covers....that's it! They are still modern days slaves...many of em with that hoodrat attitude, Real artists like Marvin Gaye, Billie Holiday use their art/voices to expose America's injustice. And when they do that? They...

African American Photographer captures The Black South [1920s South Carolina]

In one photograph, a young boy looks plaintively toward the camera, dressed in undoubtedly his finest wool suit, his prized rooster gently clutched under his arm. In another, the Reverend Charles Jaggers sits regally in a finely carved chair, his Bible in one hand and his cane in the other. These are the faces of African Americans who lived in Columbia and across South Carolina during the 1920s and 1930s, as captured by African American photographer Richard Samuel Roberts. This December, the...

It is still a hater’s paradise. Trump’s topmost strategist is bigot, Steve Bannon, a known racist who also said that he didn't want his kids "going to school with Jews." Trump is not a formal Stormfront guy but Bannon as his top strategist insures that a bestial racist platform are part of Trump’s offering.

Exactly; and to insure himself a second term, Trump has to keep blowing that racist dog whistle his entire first term. Really, even if Trump wanted to tone down on the racist rhetoric and try to restore a more democratic and racially tolerant climate, his stacking his administration with America's most vile racists, won't allow it to happen.

The US is down for the count. Pres. Duterte of the Phillipines brags about personally throwing people off his helicopter to their death. He loves Trump as do smiling dictators waving to us around the world. The US lost its way and yielded to the global wave of fascism. We are living in a foreign country ruled by oligarchs elected by ignoramus viewers of Duck Dynasty. It’s their time to further fuck things up.

That's why when the Vikings came to the new world the native Americans stayed away from them because of their odor or for a better word stench.
