\ Yeah, Rowe...sorry to disappoint you but I am that one guy you described...I am a nerd...fashion is less of a neccessity to me...there are many other things on my mind...on a regular day...it is a shirt, tie and pair of dress slacks for residency and a pair of jeans when I get home and on weekends.

That's interesting because I was watching an old episode of Dave Chapelle the other night, and his musical guest was "Big Boi," one of the group members of the popular rap group, Outkast. He was wearing an outfit that was very similiar to the White dude's outfit that I described earlier in the discussion. But instead, the artist Big Boi wore a black velvet blazer with padded elbows, crisp white shirt, relaxed jeans, etc. Is Big Boi "gay?" I also spotted Will Smith wearing a velvet blazer...

I don't equate dressing up with being gay - I just don't care for the look you described (and typically if you see a brother ( especially in ATL! ) rocking that kind of 'fashion', he's gay - AG & I are just trying to help you out!) The look you're raving about is an Esquire, GQ type of fashion, i.e. European. Sorry, it's just not my style. Do you know how much those clown clothes cost? IMHO, there is nothing that we could or should do to ease anyone's discomfort as it relates to our ethnicity. That is an internal issue that the uncomfortable individual needs to deal with - if they even want to. The "discomfort" is based on lies, and everyone knows that you can't make the truth out of a lie.

No, no, no we should not and are not responsible for them being comfortable. One of the biggest obstacles we face is their propensity to view themselves as the center of the universe and all that they do, think and feel as the norm, or as the normative standard to which everything is compared and judged. Much like spoiled children, they need to learn that the sun does not rise and set upon them. A little discomfort is just what the doctor ordered.

Following his training at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, DAVID OYELOWO was offered the 1999 season at the UK's Royal Shakespeare Company, playing roles in Volpone and Oroonoko. The following season, he became the first Black actor to play an English monarch for the RSC, taking the title role in Henry VI. This performance won him the Ian Charleson Award in 2001 for Best Newcomer in a Classical Play. David Oyelowo (born on 1 April 1976) is a British actor. He was born in Oxford,...

I find myself getting exasperated at myself for trying to search for some rationale 'they' might use to explain why meeting their needs is the thing to do. Am I craazy???? I'm from the MD area, educated in DC[Georgetown U], returned to DC after grad school and have found that black women are the least approachable women of the all. Many DC black men agree with me on this. That's why there are so many mixed couples in the surrounding areas, i.e. Northern VA, PG County, Gaitherburg MD, Bethesda MD, and Silver Spring MD...have you ever been to Georgetown??

To the people of Washington DC who have defended Marion Barry, seeing him as a victim of a conspiracy by Whites who don't want him in power, working on behalf of the poor in DC this must be tantamount to Rosa Parks getting robbed in her home despite asking the thug "Do you know who I am" and he not caring .
