Reply to "Why can poor socialist CUBA take better care of its people during Hurricans?"

If Cuba was so great, millions would not risk their lives to flee, enough said about communist cuba and the leftist delusions of paradise.

Some facts and observations regarding what has happened in New Orleans:

8.6 BILLION federal dollars has poured into Louisiana since 9/11 for Evacuation and Emergency Planning. Obviously the Louisiana officials, ie, the governor and the mayor of new orleans itself, did no planning, had no clue, so where did that money go? -
The guidance had even been agreed to, that satellite emergency communications technology just like the military uses, would be installed, costing about 2 billion. OBVIOUSLY that didn't get done since communications and coordination has been cited as major problems they have faced there. Again, what happened to all that money?

The governor of the state and the mayor of orleans share in this blame of lacking communication and coordination capability, even tonight that is still a MAJOR issue. Pitiful.

(FANTASTIC contrast between the state of Texas, which is fully ready locally with emergency and evacuation capability, and Louisiana which handled the event pitifully. or to the point negligently)

The National Guard, who is directly under the control of the Governor of Louisiana, and noone else, was not mobilized anywhere near quickly enough, which should have been BEFORE the storm even hit since there was plenty of warning it was coming. What on earth was the mayor and governor doing all those days as Katrina approached??? Baffles the mind. As soon as the winds died down, they should have been moving into Orleans, and not just 2000, but at minimum 10,000. That didn't happen. They are just now arriving in bulk, on day 5!!

The Mayor of New Orleans, knowing many of his constituents may not have transportation, could have EASILY mobilized the thousands of public school buses directly under his control, as well as greyhound, vans, trucks, and hundreds of city vehicles, BEFORE the storm even hit, and immediately after the winds died down, drove the buses right to the Projects, and right to the neighborhoods and starting loading people, provided direction to where people could go to get the buses, empty out all the hospitals, nursing homes, etc.

He ordered an emergency MANDATORY evacuation but FAILED TOTALLY to facilitate or support it in any way. Had this been done, thousands of lives would have been saved.

There SHOULD have been temporary facilities setup to house these people away from the effected areas, and simply driving them out of town shortly before the storm hit could not possibly have been all that difficult to coordinate. (They are coordinating it NOW aren't they. My god)

NOT A SINGLE BUS, TRUCK, VAN, OUT OF THOUSANDS AVAILABLE TO THE CITY, WAS PROVIDED BY THE MAYOR AND ORLEANS CITY COUNCIL TO ANYONE. AGAIN, IMMEDIATELY BEFORE, AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE STORM, NOT A SINGLE EFFORT WAS MADE TO HELP ANYONE GET OUT OF NEW ORLEANS. THATS PRACTICALLY CRIMINAL ON THIS MAYOR'S PART.

An entire fleet of public school buses in and around New Orleans, thousands of them, just sat, got wet, got wasted. And people died because of it, thousands of people.

It was the Mayor's idea, while in a state of panic, that suddenly the notion that thousands of people should get to the SuperDome. So on they marched thru the water. No cots, no toilets, no water, no food, no security, no transportation, NOTHING did the Mayor and city council have ready, or even a clue as to what was needed. Why? Because the Mayor and city officials had not planned at all, were IMMENSELY inept, incapable, incompetent. Blood on their hands for that foulup.

Sending thousands of people into a murderous stinking sewer with no food or security like the mayor did that day HAS to be one of the worst decisions ever made by a politician anywhere on earth. This man has no business being a leader of any type. He couldn't organize a small picnic obviously.
