Not only in Mississippi, but in many parts of the the country, Black women were sterilized without their consent or knowledge.

 

One reason, I believe that more is not heard about such cases is because most of these women were from a generation where women did not talk about things like that and likely never wanted anyone to know, and also because many of them probably lived out there lives never really knowing why they could not have children.  

 

I know, I myself know, or know of a lot of older Black women that had a child out of wedlock when they were young, but never had any other children, it's my suspicion that many women, especially, Black women or poor women were sterilized back in those days if they had a child out of wedlock.
