quote:Am I the only black person in the world that does not care for the Tyler Perry series of movies??? I hate to sound uppity, but they are just plain ghetto to me, don't like them at all. I never could get into the man- dressed- as- a- "big mama" character thing with his or any other movie (big mama's house). People look at me like I'm crazy when I say I don't like the movies!
Black America has LEARNED to embrace the stereotypical mascline Black WOMAN portrayed by effiminate Black men i.e. Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Flip Wilson, and now Tyler Perry. It seems the positive depiction of strong Black men in movies are FAR and in-between[and historical]...although we do have Denzel, Wesley and Fishburne who are SOMETIMES given STRONG positive manly roles. But that's all [excluding music videos]. Black America seems to be comfortable with this setting. Or desperate to see black faces on film. I don't know which.
