What others say...and another pic... not great quality but hey I was busy dancing.
"What a strange confluence of forces this Californian is. He seems to be a Western white man channelling music from deep in the heart of Africa and the Caribbean diaspora.
Unlike most Western people who borrow from African traditions, such as Paul Simon, Mick Fleetwood and Ginger Baker, Berry didn't go on a snatch-and-grab mission. He went to southern Africa in 1990, stayed for more than a decade, married a Zimbabwean woman who is now part of his group, became a fluent Shona speaker and is recognised in Africa as a drum master and a gwenyambira, one whose music calls the spirits.
His band is called Panjea, meaning the world is united and all the continents are one. Berry first used Panjea as the name of the band that won a Zimbabwean version of Idol. Berry has devoted his life to fusing two musical traditions. Panjea's sound is compelling and sparkling, performed by musicians from Senegal, Zimbabwe, Surinam and the US."
