The full title is By These Hands: A Documentary History of African American Humanism. Edited by Anthony Pinn.

It is basically an anthology of writings of and about Black Humanists ... where Humanism is conceived of as an alternative to Black theistic (primarily Christian) thought ... There's a chapter on the religious evolution of Frederick Douglass ... excerpts from W.E.B. Du Bois, Zora Neale Hurston, Richard Wright, James Baldwin, and others.
