I think it's his use of language that makes it kinda insulting but if you replace his words, many of the things he say is true. I wouldn't use the word "arrogance" not even the word "confident" per se and I definitely wouldn't say "if you wanna be better than someone else" cuz there is no such thang as "being better." We as humans just have different situations is all. But the meat of what he is saying should also be told to the younger generation of Black men. That's what it is! Man language. His speaking "man language" cuz men use sports, numbers, and other visual analysis to hon in on a point and to use as examples. And I guess that's why he may sound so insulting. But this is how some "dudes" talk. The men in family talk like he does. And yes there is such a group of men penned arrogant- but don't get me started with that.
But I agree with him when he say "don't let folks get to you just cuz you're smart. Don't dumb yourself down" just to fit in or blend in. It doesn't work. And he's right about another thing, The haters will come after you if you are brilliant! This is sooooo true. As why I don't dumb down for no one. I yam what I yam. And a lot of times folks don't like that about me but I don't give a sweet fock. And the difference with me and this brotha talkin? I don't compete. And because of that, I use to find myself in a lot of trouble cuz people wanna examine me as if I am a slave, subject or object and it is they who determine my humanness, my smartness…. my brilliance. I say Helllllll to the nawh-stay the fock outta my lane/space cuz I aint in yourn. But at the end of the day, there's a lot of truth in what he is saying but I just think it's the language he's using that may be the turn off. At first it was for me, then I had to listen again-much like rap music. But!
I posted it in the men section because men will be able to feel what he is saying. Often men, esp. Black men, are encouraged to be second fiddle in many to most aspects of society. This video challenges brothers to step up and be great.
