Im gonna keep it real, you seem to be looking for the specific phrase "planned obsolescence" and claiming its not dealt with if you don't see it or hear it. The truth is that the idea is found in quite a bit of work (from the time of Marx til today).
FYI there are entire chapters in Marx's work Capital that deal with Planned Obsolescence"
The idea is one that is borne from the logic of the system and not some contrived, secondary agenda. Planned Obsolescence is a consequence of Capital's perpetual growth model.
I thought the point about Dickens was well stated, given that the conditions that lead to his writing are the same that exist in "third world" countries.....except today its hidden with better forms of marketing and news coverage (read propaganda).
