SUGGESTED READING LISTS

November 19, 2011 9:23 PM

How about everyone posting a suggested reading list?  (African American/Diaspora related)

I would be very interested and hopefully, so would other members on this forum.

Okay....just from the top of my head:

Isis Papers

Aint I a Woman?

The African Origin of Civilization

The Destruction of Black Civilizations

Color Purple

Ancient Egypt

Egyptian Mythology

Serpent in the Sky

50 Black Women Who Changed America

Black Masters

Atlas of African American History

Black Inventors[not sure of the title]

I too sing America

These are staples that will put folks on notice regarding the African American plight  in my view.  There are many more I would suggest.  However, I really don't have the time to thoroughly look through my library[I haven't forgotten about the book I told you about sista Sunnubian]...but!  With every available moment I get, I will recommend more and find that book promised!

These are from the early 60s and about Black Americans in Africa.

Black Man's Burden by Mack Reynolds

One could argue that they are similar to the Arab Spring.

The Defining Science Fiction Books of the 1960s

http://jameswharris.wordpress....-books-of-the-1960s/

World War II gave us rockets, RADAR, jet planes, computers and the Atom Bomb.  In 1960 we got The Pill.  Although computers are the fastest evolving technology all of these things are still propelling our future.

I think some of the mistakes of the last 30 years are the result of not enough people having read science fiction to make a future that makes sense.
